Babymetal
Babymetal (Japanese: ベビーメタル, Hepburn: Bebīmetaru), stylised in all caps, is a Japanese kawaii metal band formed in Tokyo in 2010. The group consists of Suzuka Nakamoto as "Su-metal" (lead vocals, dancing), Moa Kikuchi as "Moametal" (backing vocals, dancing), and Momoko Okazaki as "Momometal" (backing vocals, dancing). The band is produced by Kobametal of the talent agency Amuse Inc., and their live performances are supported by a group of session musicians known as the "Kami Band".
Babymetal was created with the concept of combining elements of heavy metal with those of Japanese idol music. The band was originally a sub-unit of the idol group Sakura Gakuin, whose members graduate upon finishing compulsory education. Following Suzuka Nakamoto’s graduation in 2013, Babymetal became an independent act. The original lineup consisted of Su-metal, Moametal, and Yui Mizuno as "Yuimetal". In 2018, after a prolonged absence from live performances, Mizuno departed the group due to health-related issues. During this period, the band performed with rotating backup dancers. Among them was Momoko Okazaki, a former Sakura Gakuin member, who officially joined Babymetal as a full member in 2023.
The band has toured extensively, with a significant portion of their performances taking place in Europe and the Americas. Babymetal have released five studio albums: "Babymetal" (2014), "Metal Resistance" (2016), "Metal Galaxy" (2019), "The Other One" (2023), and "Metal Forth" (2025). The band consider "The Other One" to be a concept album rather than their fourth main studio release. "Metal Forth", released in August 2025, was the first album to feature Okazaki as a member and marked a new creative direction for the band. Seven of its ten tracks feature collaborations with artists from various countries, including Electric Callboy and Tom Morello.
